Associate Marriage and Family Therapist

Hi, I’m Sari (like Mary), I am a Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT #139351) based in Los Angeles, California. I am supervised by Margot Coggins (LMFT #91188). I earned my Master’s in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University Los Angeles and I hold a B.A. in Film from Columbia College Chicago.

I have been a Los Angeles resident for over 20 years by way of Detroit, Michigan and Chicago, Illinois. I spent 15 years working as a television and film editor before moving into to the world of psychology. That background continues to inform my work and still shapes how I see and listen for the underlying stories, patterns, and emotional threads in people’s lives. Working in film taught me how to pay attention to subtle shifts, emotional undercurrents, and the stories people carry. Over time, that awareness turned into a deeper curiosity about the lives people lead.

I became a therapist because I know what it feels like to carry things that are hard to name. The quiet ache of never quite feeling like you belong, the challenge of staying connected to others when connection itself feels difficult, and the long, winding path toward understanding yourself. That personal journey didn't just bring me to this work; it shaped the kind of therapist I am.

For the highly sensitive, the beautifully complex, and those who may be carrying around a few extra letters of the alphabet with them (ADHD, OCD, PTSD, HSP...you know who you are), you're in good company here. I understand what it feels like to move through the world running on a different kind of operating system.

I work with people navigating the complexity of relationships, family wounds, and the patterns we inherit long before we have words for them. Whether you're untangling dynamics from your family of origin, finding your footing after loss or disconnection, or trying to understand why the same painful cycles keep showing up, I'm here to help you make sense of it, at your own pace, without judgment.

My Approach

Therapy isn't about fixing you. You're not broken. It's about getting curious together, untangling what no longer serves you, and finding your way back to yourself, maybe for the first time.

My approach is relational and trauma-informed, and I draw on a range of evidence-based frameworks to meet each person where they are. I'm deeply fascinated by the intersection of neuroscience and psychology and how our nervous systems, our early experiences, and even our brain chemistry shape the stories we tell about ourselves and the world we live in. Understanding the "why" behind how we feel and respond can be one of the most liberating parts of the healing process.

I believe healing rarely happens in isolation, and that the natural world, animals, and our connection to living things can be powerful doorways back to our authentic self. I have a deep interest in equine-assisted, animal-assisted and nature-based psychotherapy, and I weave that perspective into what I believe helps the healing process.

It is essential to acknowledge that therapy does not follow a linear trajectory. There will be occasions when you leave feeling lighter, refreshed, and perhaps even revelatory. Conversely, there will be times when you depart with a desire to discontinue, feeling distressed and upset. However, it's imperative to recognize that the solutions often lie within that discomfort, and I am here to help support you throughout that process.

I bring warmth, humor, and my whole self to this work. Sessions can be tender, and they can also be funny, because that's how real human connection works. You won't be judged here. You won't have to perform or pretend. You can just show up.
